WINTER TRAIL HIKE and CHILI SUPPER
You are cordially invited to a friendraiser/fundraiser for Little Forks Conservancy on
Saturday, February 28, 2009
5 – 8 p.m., in any weather conditions or situation
On Eagles Wings Inn, 4159 E. Hubbard Road, Midland, MI
BACKGROUND:
Formed by mid-Michigan citizens, Little Forks Conservancy is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) corporation organized for the purposes of the acquisition and/or protection of selected land and water areas in order to retain or develop their desirable natural and cultural features, such as:
1. Preservation and protection of natural and cultural resources located principally in, but not limited to, the Tittabawassee River watershed. These resources include land and water resources, the plant and animal life thereon, and unique scenic, natural, and historical sites and buildings,
2. Protect river corridors in regard to erosion, scenic areas and views, and water quality,
3. Protect areas such as bogs, wet sand prairies, marshes, and other habitats,
4. Protect archeological and historical sites and buildings.
BENEFIT OF EVENT
Sponsored by Bethany and Chuck Goodman, owners and innkeepers of On Eagles Wings Inn, a Midland located bed and breakfast, this first ever winter trail hike and chili supper will provide a fun and friendly site for this important charity. The inn is located on 200 acres of woodlands and fields which are interlaced with nature trails. Proceeds from the event will be used to further the mission of Little Forks Conservancy.
DONATIONS
A donation of $50 per couple or $30 per individual will help allow the conservancy to continue to underwrite and maintain properties the organization has or will purchase in its mission quest. There is no age limit for participation.
EVENT ACTIVITIES
The snow levels in Mid-Michigan in 2008-9 have been ideal for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. As of February 12, much of our snow base has melted. However, with Michigan’s winter weather surprises, it is hoped that the snow level will return to great outdoor snow cover, allowing cross-country skiing and snowshoeing through the beauty and quiet of the inn property. You may bring your own equipment, or use the snowshoes graciously provided for use during this event by the Chippewa Nature Center. Be sure to wear appropriate winter wear, and bring your camera or binoculars if you wish. If you’re interested in nighttime trail hiking with skis and snowshoes, bring a flashlight or nighttime light headgear. We’ll be expecting a dark night, since the new moon is “scheduled” a few days prior to the event. In case you’re not in the mood for an outdoor adventure, you may find sitting in front of the warm fire visiting with friends (or making new friends) an inviting option.
The outdoor activity can begin at 5 p.m. or anytime after, with the chili supper ready for the event attendees at 6:30 p.m. Executive Director Doug Koop will give a special short update about the good work of Little Forks Conservancy at 7:15 p.m.
The menu for the chili supper includes various recipes of chili, broccoli cheese soup, corn bread, a light salad, beverages (hot and cold), and desserts.
